Happy 22nd Birthday to Anna!! August 8, 2019!

Anna turned 22 today....just unbelievable, but I guess all parents think that.   We had the best day!

It started around 9 when we all jumped on her bed to wake her up..a mass pile up. Around noon, we drove over to Valley Green, and took a long hike in the woods...so much fun!  We then drove up to Chestnut Hill and stopped at a place for a little something to eat, which was unfortunately mostly sticky buns and brownies (ugh!)

For dinner, we all drove over to Ardmore and ate outside on a beautiful night at a restaurant in Suburban Square.  And then, of course, we drove home for an ice cream cake....just the perfect ending to a perfect day...most of all because we have all been together since last week when Anna came home from her summer internship in DC....things are so much happier when we are all here!

Happy 22nd Birthday, Anna.  You are my heart and soul.

Leslie Gallagher Weekend 2019! August 3-4, 2019!

This is the second Annual Leslie Gallagher weekend, or, "the celebration of all things Leslie Gallagher."   I started it last year because my birthday is February 4th, which around here is a very cold time of year, and I absolutely hate cold weather, which makes me not want to celebrate my birthday.   And because I hate my birthday birthdate, I specifically planned and had all my children in nice weather...all five of them are born from May 7th through November 9th.   All of them could have outdoor parties.

So this year, is the second Annual Leslie Gallagher weekend.  It is really pretty simple...we just do things together as a family, because that is all that makes Leslie Gallagher happy...pretty simple, right?

On Friday, I went down to DC to get Anna from her summer dorm.  She worked on Capitol Hill, and volunteered one afternoon at an adult literacy nonprofit.   And it seems like she went out with her friends 7 nights a week.  She really had a great summer.

Getting her was a whole lot less fun for me, Timmy, and Lily.   The traffic down on Friday morning was crazy...It took us over 4 hours to get there.  Once she was loaded up, we all walked over to Georgetown, which was a great walk, and then we got burgers at Burgers, something and something....it is right across from the entrance to GWU Emergency room.  Anyway, we stopped by to see Jack for a few minutes, then headed home.

The next day, the main event was our annual Christmas card photo, which is always usually pretty stressful.  This time the lady who took them was named Isabell, and she was amazing.  Afterwards, we stopped for salads on the way home, and then we all finished the final episode of a series we have been binge-watching.

After that, we drove over to Chestnut Hill to get ice cream....a place that serves Bassetts....it was a gorgeous night, and we all sat and enjoyed the lights of Chestnut Hill...it was nice.

On Sunday, I took Anna, Timmy, Matthew and Lily up to New York City to see To Kill a Mockingbird starring Jeff Daniels.  Afterwards we stopped and had cheesecakes from Juniors....just pretty much a perfect day!

Our Trip to DC for Father's Day--June 16, 2019!

We decided to head down to DC today for Father's Day.  It was a quick one-day trip, but it was great!

Anna is living in GW housing for the summer, and the Lincoln Memorial is right at the bottom of her street, 23rd Street.  So we went to the Lincoln Memorial, walked around the reflecting pool, and then, I saw the Vietnam War Memorial for the first time, which was pretty remarkable. There were thousands of roses there with sentiments wishing these men and women a happy Father's Day.  It was incredibly sad and moving.

Happy Mother's Day--May 12, 2019

Any Mother's Day is a happy one if my children were with me, and today they were....and I am so thankful for these days.   Because at some point, I may just get a call, or a card, and I will remember these days when I was so happy they were here.

My little Boy's Birthday...Matthew turns 17!! May 7, 2019!

Holy moly...Matthew is turning 17 today.  I went inside to wake him up at 5:05 am....the time 17 years ago when he was born in a hallway of Pennsylvania Hospital,  before Dr. Drew Mellen got there...really almost before I got there, via ambulance.   But that is another story.

Today, Matthew, my love, turns 17. Happy Birthday, Matthew!

I mean, could he have been any cuter??  I mean he was so chubby and adorable, with the greatest personality!

And today...only the red hair is still there!  So handsome!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! March 16-17, 2019!

This year we celebrated St. Patrick's Day over two days because Anna and Timmy were leaving on Sunday, the 17th, to go back to Notre Dame (very Irish...)  So, on Saturday night, we had dinner at Drake Tavern, which was all decorated for the holiday, and Chris had corned beef and cabbage, and
Anna and I split a corned beef special.    After a quick stop at Sprinkles, some of us headed over to the McSweeney club in Jenkintown for the Stanton Family Singers...and some of us had to go home because we were getting up at 5:30 to drive Matthew to the River for Crew and to get Anna and Timmy to their bus.

Lily had her piano recital today at 5, but at 6, she and I walked over to the Wet Whistle to hear Joe play one Irish song with his band...and we were not disappointed.  After singing along to The Wild Rover, Lily and I walked back home, leaving Chris with a big group of friends....and Lily and I came home and I ate my 1/2 of the corned beef special...that was my big Irish dinner.

All in all, not the most festive of St. Patrick's Day...but there was a lot to do with family, which is what it is all about.  Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!

Notre Dame Junior Parents' Weekend--February 15-17th, 2019!

I have been really bad about actually posting anything for three years....really since Chris' stroke.  So here is our weekend in photos!

One day I will actually fill in the details, but for now, just know we had a great time!

Lorraine--January 16, 2019

Just writing her name makes me so sad.  Today she would be 56...the same age as me.  We were Irish twins.  It is so sad.  So many things she has missed.  It makes me so sad.
